When Emma Thompson’s son Tindy was diagnosed with TB, they were inspired to find out more about the illness. After learning that London has one of the highest rates of TB in the Western world, Ms Thompson took on the role of the Mayor of London’s TB Ambassador. TB in England is most common among people, like Tindy, who were born overseas. This is why a programme of testing and treatment is being rolled out nationally to diagnose and treat latent TB in recently settled people from countries where TB is common. In support of this programme, TB Alert is working with Public Health England and NHS England to produce a best practice toolkit for service providers, associated training materials and a suite of awareness and support materials for people offered a test.
