The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health are actively tracing over 4,500 people that they believe may have been exposed to TB, following a six year-long outbreak among the state’s homeless community.
Eleven people have died from the TB since 2007, and a total of 78 cases have been noted. Of these, 60 were homeless people living in an area known as skid row.
Health Officials believe the strain is unique to the area and that 4,650 people have been exposed.
