NICE has published a briefing summarising its recommendations for managing TB among vulnerable people. The briefing aims to help bodies and organisations in planning and commissioning services for these people, who may find it difficult to access services through traditional routes.
TB Alert’s UK Programme Director Rachel Dukes says: “This is a very timely and necessary briefing which clearly highlights the role and responsibility of local authorities in addressing TB incidence and control, but also raises important issues around ensuring people on TB treatment have access to services within their local area. Following the NHS reforms that came into effect in April, I’m pleased to see the targeting of this briefing to local authority teams, an important move considering the shift of the public health function (formerly under Primary Care Trusts) to being under the remit of local authorities.”
